FAQs

What type of fluid is recommended in the system?

We recommend using a Dexron III ATF while other light weight hydraulic fluids will work the motors and pump match well with he viscosity of the ATF.

How much fluid should be in the reservoir?

The reservoir should be maintained at ¾ full for optimum performance.

Is there a need to change the fluid?

No, unless water has made it into the reservoir which will cause the fluid to become light pink and thicken up.   If there is water in the system then something below the water line is letting water in such as a -hose or motor seal.  This issue should be resolved before changing the fluid.

What battery is in the 4 button remote?

The battery is the modern 4 button remote is an A23.

Can I add a remote control to my system?

Yes, we can add a remote to just about any existing system.  Some of the vintage systems may need to have a new joystick controller as well in order to accommodate the remote controls.

Can I add a HydraNautics system to a vessel with a Kohler Generator?

Kohler generators are unique in many aspects and it is determined on a case by case basis if we can install the required pump on the kohler generators.

Does my generator need to be running for the thrusters to function?

YES! The HydraNautics system uses the generator engine to power the pump which turns the props in the water. The generator on the vessel needs to be in good working order for the system to function properly.

Is there any chance of damage to the generator?

No…  As long as the generator is maintained properly there is no likely event of damage to the generator.  Westerbeke has approved the power take off for the hydraNautics system.
